That Mr. Woodcock's case is

covered by Colonial Office Regulation No. 77 and that under

this rule he is entitled to draw on the lapsing pay.

That since the 5th. of last Janu-

-ary Mr. Woodcock has been doing a half day's work at the

Supreme Court in addition to all his own work at the

extra pay and that this arrangement will

continue until the 6th. proximo.

Since the return from leave of

Mr. J. W. Lee-Jones on the 5th. of January there has been o

lapsing pay available for the special remuneration of Mr.-~-

Woodcock. But on and from the 6th. of April the half salary

of Mr. Melbourne, Deputy Registrar and Appraiser, who is

drawing $3,600 per annum will be available.

Until a Passed Cadet is available

to act for Mr. Melbourne it will be necessary that the work

of the latter shall continue to be performed, as at present

in part by Mr. Woodcock in addition to his duties as

First Clerk at the Magistracy, and in part by Mr.

Lee Jones

Deputy Registrar and Accountant.

I have, therefore, to recommend

that while Mr. Woodcock is so employed he may receive

two-thirds
